We left Helena today at 8:30 again, after a good night's sleep. It's snowing as we start, although not as heavy as half an hour ago. The highway started in good shape, then got worse as we climbed through a series of mountain passes... lots of snowplows in evidence.
We started in Montana this morning and passed all the way through Idaho during the day. The only stop was in Idaho Falls for lunch and to scrape some of the snow off the vehicles. The bus gets cold while you're driving and the dash heater can't keep up with the sheer volume of air in the bus. So normally we drive with the coach heater turned on low. For some reason, we had electrical problems today, one of which was the heater wouldn't stay on when driving. So we were a bit chilly when the sun wasn't shining. Other problems included the radio, the step and power to the control panel all stopped at one time or another, and then re-started. Have to look into this when it's warmer. Everything seems to work when the generator is on or we're plugged in to 110v, so this isn't an urgent issue yet.
Near the Utah border, the sun came out and with new snow on the mountains, there were good picture taking opportunities. See Elaine's work above, especially the one taken around Inkom, ID. After driving for 8 1/2 hours, we stopped in Brigham City at the Golden Spike RV Park. Lots of people here and the manager said it was 15 degrees colder than normal for this time of year. Tomorrow we'll try to make St. George, where the high is forecast to be 45F.
Today is a special day for someone back home... Happy Birthday Karen!
