Harvest time in Saskatchewan

Dog River grain elevator

We had a busy family weekend, with visits, meals and a little golf thrown in for good measure. Today is Tuesday and we're off to Weyburn Saskatchewan. It was a very windy drive... winds out of the south at 60-70 kph with gusts and we were traveling basically south east. It was also a funny day for weather, with cloud and rain in some places and sunny and hot in others.

The highways that we've traveled in southern Saskatchewan are a mixed bag. But there seem to be sections on each road that are terrible in comparison with other provinces. Our route included highway 11 (SE from Saskatoon) to highway 2 (south to Moose Jaw), highway 1 just east of Moose Jaw and finally highway 35 to Weyburn.

A high spot in the journey today was a lunch stop at Corner Gas. For non-Canadians reading this, Corner Gas is a service station located in the fictional town of Dog River Saskatchewan. We visited Corner Gas and the Ruby diner in the real town of Rouleau, just southeast of Moose Jaw. We took pictures and walked around the set, but unfortunately the cast was filming today in "the city" and no one was available except a bored security guard. On the other hand, Cassie and Tucker had a POS experience (pee-on-set). They must have been smelling Hank's Littlest Hobo or something.

Carried on after lunch to Weyburn and are currently camped at the city camp ground. It's pleasant with lots of grass and trees. Almost everyone here has dogs of some kind, so C&T are not without company if they want. Tomorrow we'll visit the local Speedy Auto Glass to see if they can fix the stone chips in the windshield, Then it's off to the border. With luck it won't be windy. Had a couple of thunderstorms overnight, but everything was dry when we woke up.
