Today I met my new friend, Virginia Staats, at the South Austin Senior Center to check it out and to have lunch. The price was certainly right. For $1.00 we had meat loaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, okra and tomatoes, bread, milk and an orange! The annual dues are also a bargain at $3.00.

After lunch we had a little tour of the facilities, which are very nice. I was especially impressed with the artwork by mosaic artists Steve Wiman and Jill Bedgood. In the dining room there is a beautiful large mosaic created from china fragments donated by senior citizens of Austin. Other smaller mosaics and oil paintings adorn the walls in the entry and hallway. Behind the center is a nice garden.

Since the weather had cleared up, we decided to visit the Zilker Botanical Gardens. We discovered that there have been quite a few changes since our last visits. The gardens are always beautiful any time of year. We really enjoyed our stroll in the cool autumn weather.
