THURSDAY, JANUARY 11, 2007. PUNO, PERU. I visited the floating islands of the Uros people on Lake Titicaca this afternoon. They are called the floating islands because the people live on islands and homes made completely of reeds that grow in the Titicaca waters. It's quite unique--for the first five minutes. Unfortunately, it's become pretty much of a tourist trap as you are shuttled from island to island, on each of which the local Uros people are patiently waiting for tourists to purchase souvenirs and knickknacks.

I've decided to change my intinerary just a bit. Originally I was planning to head to Arequipa. Instead, tomorrow I travel to Cuzco where I plan to arrange a four-day trek on the Inca trail to Machu Picchu.
