Thu, 08 May: A major change in plans = a great day with a good friend...

We awoke this morning fully intending to spend another day In Amarillo doing some shopping and mostly "vegging". A few phone calls and everything turned upside down with the result that we got to spend time with a very dear friend.

It started out with us calling Ron & Joan Scott to find out where they were and what their near term plans were. It turns out that they are in Red Bay, AL having some work done on their coach. In the course of our conversation we asked if Ray Bailey was still there and they advised that he left yesterday and was heading home.

Well, a call to Ray revealed that he was, indeed, heading west on I 40 and was planning to spend the nite in Elk City, OK. We checked the map and saw that Elk City was only 160 miles from Amarillo. We were heading east anyway, so we decided to leave Amarillo a day early, alter our route a tad, and meet Ray in Elk City.

We did our shopping, got Carpe ready for the road, and rolled wheels a bit after eleven. We stopped at the Flying J for fuel, and continued east thru the Texas panhandle to the Oklahoma state line where we stopped for lunch and maps at the welcome center. Another fifty miles and we were at the KOA in Elk City where we got a site almost next to Ray.

We got a tour of his beautiful 2014 Allegro Bus. What a great coach. Dinner at a nearby steakhouse, and then back home for a belated Happy Hour. It was a great treat to visit with Ray that could only have been improved had his bride been with him.

Not too sure where we'll head tomorrow, but it'll be mostly east and north from here. Stay tuned.
