The Whiting's Great Alaskan Adventure travel blog

Took off from Sidney NE after picking up some fishing equipment from the 1st Cabellas store here in Sidney (they also have a NICE campground that we stayed at!) and headed for the Black Hills of South Dakota. The roads were all very nice and we've been pleasantly surprised since we've been off the freeway. The worst thus far was from Memphis to Little Rock on I40 with Oklahoma coming in a close second! Kansas roads were very nice as were Nebraska and South Dakota. On the way we saw a sign that advertised Carhenge, SO we decided to drop by and see the replica of Stonehenge with cars! We arrived at the Rafter J Bar Ranch RV park in Hill City and were very happy with the rv sites and all they have to offer....wide open spaces and trees....most of the parks we passed were very tight, but there are ALOT of camping places available. We met up with my brother Bill, his wife Merrilee, and their friend Vicky on their motorcycles and we took off on a short ride through the local area to have dinner with my niece Jeni and her husband Jeremy (flies B-1s at Ellsworth AFB). There are plans for mor rides the next couple of days to see ALL the sites...stay tuned :)
