The Oakland/Bay bridge

Sailing at 25 kts.

Life on Heel!

Yeah, I was there! Oops, telephoto doesn't work for people...

What a treat to sail the beautiful SF bay!

Yes we made it to San Francisxo under a fog shrouded bridge with fog horns blaring from the bridge. Surreal feeling. With our speed and the current we exceeded 10 kts which is the fastest ever as our hull speed is 8.5 kts. We have been tied tied up in a slip in Jack London Square thanks to Jeri at Ventura Isle Marina. We rented a car last weekend and took a trip to Chintown on Friday, met our friend Craig of Infinnity at Fisherman's Wharf for breakfast(he lives in Ojai but here on business) and then went winetasting on Saturday in Napa. We shopped farmer's market at Jack London Square (next to our boat), attended church at St. Peter and Paul's in Little Italy (North Beach) on Sunday and had the best lunch ever at Pomodoro: Butternut squash ravioli in browned butter and Capricio salad which was heavenly! We took a quick trip to Berkeley Monday and one last trip today to Little Italy to get some authentic pizza and cappucino. I guess we really are foodies at heart. On Tuesday we decided to try sailing on the bay. Wow! As one person put it, "If you can sail on the bay, you can sail anywhere". I now believe that is true as there is never a dull moment. As soon as you think you can rest and enjoy the sail, the wind kicks up to 25 kts. and a sail change/reef is needed. To be fair, the views are incredible. We arrived in the city today via the Alameda/Oakland ferry which delivered us to pier 39/41 at Fisherman's wharf, home of Boudin's fresh sourdough bread. Walked Lombard street (crookedest street) and found a Trader Joe's. We enjoyed some Boudin's sourdough, salad and bruschetta for dinner tonight. When you don't have a car, it is a nice treat to find a great store to buy staples. Overall we walked and walked and walked all over San Francisco for fun and exercise. What a treat. The unusual part... it was at least 80 degrees today in SF as they say there is a heatwave here now. I enjoy this however, once we leave, we will be back to cooler air and waters.

Tomorrow, Thursday 8/28 we have a very short window to head north. It is not pretty out there but doable. We hope to land tomorrow in Bodega Bay and will hole up there for at least a few days until the seas settle down. We will determine if there are lots to see and explore there until we can move on. Luckily Enterprise has rental cars for $20.00 per day Fri - Sat every week so maybe we will be just in time for another land tour!
