Update: Monday 9/29/2008

Current Location: Henry Horton State Park, Chapel Hill, Tennessee

Current Job: Campground Hosts

Weather: Warm today in the 80’s and lows in the mid 50s.

Hello to Everyone,

Well, we have arrived and set up here in the Henry Horton State Park near Chapel Hill Tennessee. We had no problem finding fuel on the trip up. We drove a total of 410 miles. Fuel ranged from 4.29 to 3.94 gal for diesel.

The park is about 40 miles south of Nashville on US 31A. The park nestles in a rolling forest and next to the Duck River.

We arrived here on Saturday and met with the Park Rangers to get our assigned RV site to set up on. Like the park in Florida, we will have all the RV hook ups we need, including a separate in ground sewer connection. This means we will not have to worry about managing our water usage as much. So, it looks like we can take some nice long hot showers and not worry about filling up our holding tanks. Man, the little things in life are nice!!

The park here has 56 camp sites and several primitive tent camping sites as well as a large group site. So, this campground is very large and is laid out over several hundred acres of land. The park also host a 18 hole golf course, picnic grounds, skeet range, park lodge accommodations and restaurant. Here is the park web site if you interested: Click here

Our job as camp hosts will be to check in campers and collect the camping fees. We are required to answer questions from campers and patrol the camp ground, and assist folks as needed. We will be issued a park radio and golf cart to communicate with the rangers and to motor around the grounds. No other duties are required. As far as we know at this time we will have Sunday and Monday off each week. The park rangers will take care of business during our off days.

At this time we have not noticed the color of the trees changing. I think we will need some cooler weather before that happens. We have no idea what kind of wildlife we will be able to view here. Maybe deer and raccoon will be visible. We will just have to check it out as the month wears on.

The last journal update that was posted, while we were in Florida, the system would not let me upload any pictures, so, with this posting I will include some of those pictures. We haven’t had enough time here yet to get any worthy pictures, so, have patience with me on that.

The small town of Chapel Hill is just that….small. We found a Subway, Dominos pizza, Sonic and a local BBQ place to check out. We will explore more and see what we can find. I think the local high school team is called the ROCKETS. Maybe will have a chance to see one of their football games on Friday nights before we leave.

One of my friends at DENSO, Darby Abbott; His wife Emily is from Chapel Hill. So, maybe they will drop by for a visit during the month of October. We would love to have folks drop in on us and visit with us while we are here at the park. So, just give us a call and let us know when you would like to visit and we will make sure we are here.

We will make a short run to Maryville to check on the house and pick up mail and be back at the Park on Wed 10/01/2008 to begin our Camp host duties.

We begin this assignment with great expectations and wonder. This place is such a beautiful setting and we wish we could share it somehow with all of you. God blesses us with many wonderful and precious moments. All we need to do is somehow capture the moment and share it with folks you love and appreciate.

As I have said before in this journal: Time is short. Life is fleeting. Take time to appreciate your surroundings and the people you love. Be thankful in all things.

In the meantime……..The adventure continues!!

Later Alligators,

Archie, Chris and little Chad
