Woke up this morning to wonderful movin' day weather. Tom came by to say goodbye one last time & I took the opportunity to run over & pick up a hatband for my Tilley, which I had decided earlier I didn't need, but in retrospect, decided I couldn't live without! Women....that's what Larry says! And since they weren't going to be open for 10 more minutes, I ran by to give Kelly & Lily just one more kiss...sure will miss them all!

We got all hooked up without incident, said goodbye to the owners who made us promise we would be back again next year, & got on the road.

We had decided earlier that we definitely wanted to travel 199 so that we could run beside the Smith River for awhile. We found a large pullout which allowed us to go down to the rivers edge & I took a few pictures there as we drank in the fresh smelling air & listened to the rushing water running by. There was a small waterfall just down the road a bit so we moved further down to another pullout to try to see it better.

We were out on a really skinny shoulder of a bridge trying to walk further & further down to the beginning of the fall, when we decided it probably wasn't worth life & limb, as there were lots of trucks whizzing by us much too close for comfort. So, even though we didn't get all we wanted, you get the general idea.

We were talking about how there is so much beauty on this planet Earth, & so much to see & do just in the United States. We have really seen the sights in 4 months & we've barely even begun. Larry commented that if this had been just a 4 month vacation, it would not have been nearly long enough! Wow...I can't believe it's been such a short period of time. We have now logged 9,950 miles since leaving Nevada in early July. On the truck that is, we are going to sit down tomorrow & figure what the actual mileage on the 5'er is. We tend to get set up, & then backtrack away's to see all that we've missed in the area that we just could not comfortably stop to see with our home attached!

So, it was my bright idea to not take Interstate 5, I said "let's go down this road, I am sure the scenery will be much better..." and it was, but...Hwy 238 takes you through some beautiful country & a VERY high mountain pass! We did not pass one other motor home or 5th wheel & many folks were watching us as we whizzed by...Lare says they probably wondered what in the world we are doing out here! If there had been any guard rails we might have been a bit more comfortable on a narrow, windy 2-lane 4-6,000 ft pass. We went through several beautiful small towns, crossed the Applegate River, into major wine growing country, & passed 8 or 10 hang gliders who looked to be having a great time!

As we pulled into the historic town of Jacksonville, we were amazed with the homes, lighting & the fall colors everywhere! We will be back to visit this small town, it was just beautiful. But, our goal was to reach the town of Talent, just outside Medford, where we have located a Passport America park. It was a tough drive today, with the narrow, windy, high pass & as we passed a very nice rest area, we decided to just pull in & dry dock for the evening. So, we pulled in beside 2 other RV'ers, put out the bedroom slide, watched a bit of TV & turned in earlier than we have in months....
