Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

It was a few minutes after 8:00 AM when we pulled out of the Mark Twain Cave Campground.

The sky was a solid gray overcast and the humidity was super high, but the temperature was nice.

Mosquitoes attempted to chew us to bits as we prepared to leave, but they did very little damage overall.

We made a stop for diesel fuel at Cameron, MO and then continued on to Deer Creek Valley RV Resort in Topeka, arriving at 1:20 PM.

We had been told to go ahead and take Site #26 and then come by to pay later. They know us here as we have stayed here many times in the past.

We drove the truck to the Dillon’s Grocery Store and filled the truck with Diesel fuel while we were out. That is the second time we have fueled the truck today, while Marilyn has used only half of her 12 gallon gas tank in her car. She is getting 41 mpg while I averaged only 9.5 with a pretty good headwind today.

Tomorrow is our anniversary so I want her to ride with me and we’ll tow the car behind the RV, as we drive from Topeka to Oakley, KS.

That drive will take us about 5 hours and then we’ll be ready for the final leg to Colorado Springs on Monday.

We drove to the Texas Roadhouse, which is one of our favorite restaurants, and met John & Lori as well as Rhonda.

Rhonda’s husband, Sam, was on a road trip and couldn’t join us.

We all enjoyed a fine meal with lots of conversation and laughter.

We lingered after the meal until it was obvious that we needed to leave and make room for more people who were waiting for a table.

We then sat together outdoors, on a bench, and continued the visit.

In the end we had spent 2 ½ hours together before we finally called it an evening.

It sure was nice seeing these good friends again.

Any time we can be in the company of good friends with food, drink, conversation and lots of laughter, we can say with certainty that Life is Good!
