Carpe Diem at Crystal Lake Campground

Entering I 95 west of Hobe Sound
We'll be on 95 till Virginia

Welcome to Crystal Lake Campground

Mon, 16 May: Heading north at last...

After a week at the Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound Florida the time has come to begin our trek northward. In addition to being out of time here at the park, the weekend's high eighties temperature and humidity serves as a tangible incentive.

We had pretty much gotten Carpe Diem ready for the road yesterday by dumping the holding tanks, adding water to the potable tank, checking tire pressure, engine oil, etc., etc. So, despite sleeping in till eight we enjoyed our morning tea, a hearty breakfast, went through our check lists, hooked up Carpe Dinkum, and still got underway at 0952.

Exiting the state park we headed north on US 1 to Hobe Sound and then west on FL 708 six or so miles to Interstate 95. North it is and the GPS then advised us to exit in 137 miles. Navigation was not today's challenge.

Bob drove the entire 146 miles thru mostly level three lane wide interstate with moderate traffic. We exited at Mims and immediately turned into the Crystal Lake Campground entrance. We were directed to "pick a spot and check in after lunch" (it was 1242). We found a level grassy spot with a good sky view for our satellite dish and solar panels as well as a good view of the lake. The park is pretty much empty so it is quiet and relaxing.

After getting set up Bob headed to the office to check in. This is a Passport America 50% discount park so our full hookup 50 ampere site is quite reasonable.

Today's drive was 146 miles with an overall fuel economy just south of nine MPG!.
