7/29 – 7/31
In two days and 399 miles (I90, I15) we arrived at Horse Prairie campground at Clark Canyon Reservoir near Dillon Montana. Along the way we stayed overnight at a fishing access area along the Saint Regis River by Saint Regis, Montana. Horse Prairie is one of our favorite locations and we plan to be here for a couple weeks.
In July we put 1087 miles on the house and 506 miles on the Jeep.

One of our favorite boondocking (no hookups and free) locations is in Clark Canyon at the Clark Canyon reservoir near Dillon, Montana. For the two-week stay we parked in, what we feel, is the best camping spot on the lake with a great view of the lake. In this area, Horse Prairie, there are seven designated spots and most of the spots were empty during our stay. Reports are that the fishing is bad this year, which explains the low volume of campers. One disadvantage to this campground is the amount of field mice that infest the area. No matter how much work we put into blocking entrances to our house, they always seem to find a way in. During our stay we murdered (with peanut butter on old-fashioned traps) nine of the little devils. NOTE: Two days after we left, we got the last two hitchhikers for a total of eleven.
Most of our time was spent relaxing and enjoying the beauty and quiet of the area. The pronghorns come down from the hills to drink the reservoir water. We have a couple photos of them on our website. Joan spent some time organizing her art classes for the upcoming cruise and Ken was busy reading.
