Drove from Savannah to St. Augustine Beach today. We are staying at Ocean Grove RV Resort right on A1A. The park is nice with lots of permanent Park Models (i.e. trailer park) and seasonal spots as well. Still, there are lots of nice transient spots and we have one; a few steps from a boat ramp and dock leading to an inlet from which you can access the Intracoastal Waterway. The mullet were jumping straight out of the air and I heard that they are attracted to light. Apparently, one of the local customs is for young guys to go out in a boat at night, get drunk, and shine a big light into the water that results in a boat load of mullet. No comment needed.
St. Augustine Beach and its neighbors on the ocean permit four wheel drive vehicles on the beach for 12 miles!!!! We let a little air out of the tires and drove for about 6 miles, then parked and walked the sugar fine, white, smooth beach for about an hour. It was practically deserted and with a nice cool ocean breeze and bright sunshine, was wonderful. The osprey were diving into the surf right in front of us. Dixie loved running on the beach.
