Matanuska Glacier

one of many vistas on Glenn Highway

"Where is it? I know you have food."

6-28 - Left Valdez, retraced our steps back to Glennallen. Scenery just as good in reverse. Travelled Rt 1 toward Anchorage. We ran into clouds and rain so decided to cut the day short, so as not to miss the scenery. Staying east of Palmer at Mountain View campground. 6-29 - Weather cleared up and travel was good. Stopped to see the Matanuska Glacier. This glacier starts in the Chugach Mt's. and runs 27 miles, with an average width of 2 miles, and at the terminus it is 4 miles wide. (a lot of ice) We then stopped at a reindeer Farm (to see Rudolph's cousins) and viewed Moose, Sitka deer, and Elk as well. They gave us grain so we could feed them,(they knew the cups and why we were there)they slobbered all over us. Santa must have his herd well trained, I can't ever remember those reindeer slobbering on him. Went on to tour Anchorage(typical city) and to spend the evening with Cheri(my cousin Ralph's youngest daughter)and husband Shawn. We were treated to fresh Salmon caught by Shawn for supper, then we played horseshoes until about 10pm. (sun still shining) We plan on getting together with them again on our way back up to Fairbanks. Tomorrow we will head down the Kenai Peninsula for a couple of weeks.
