16 June - I had planned to meet Ellie and her grandson in the Virginia City parking lot this morning at 10 to go geocaching. Somehow our GPS wires got crossed and we didn’t hookup so I went by my lonesome. I found 8 of the 9 I looked for and covered over 8 miles in the process. I left Toad in Carson City today to avoid lugging him up and down the mountain side. I returned to the Nugget around 7.
17-20 June - I spent these four days doing various Carson City walkabouts from the Nugget including, an eight mile northern route to Walmart, that took me along bike trails and through parks and the Capitol Grounds and a nine mile southern route that looped around to Costco and back. I also got a few domestic chores accomplished and tried a couple of slot machines, without any luck.
During one of my walkabouts, I decided that on Sunday, I would go back up to Virginia City and climb “V” hill again. Only this time, I’m taking the same road that Joe used to drive up there last Saturday. It makes for a lot longer hike but much less bushwhacking required. I anticipate a 10-16 mile round trip, depending on how I come back down. There’s a few geocaches I plan to snag along the way too. I’ve requested others to join me but, due to the late request and Sunday being Father's Day, I’ll probably be doing it alone.
I finally reached the top after nearly 6 hours and 12 miles on the trail. After locating the cache on the summit, I took a break on the very highest rock on the peak, which I guess would actually be the peak, and while sitting there enjoying the view and the cool mountain air, I received a call from my lovely daughter, wishing me a Happy Father‘s Day. What great timing she has. Shortly after that, a father and his young son arrived. We chatted for awhile and then I asked them if they knew about geocaching. The father had, but not the boy, and was he ever excited to learn about it. So, with his dad’s permission, I give him some clues and he took off and found it. He was thrilled with his first find and assured me he was gonna get involved with the game. It was a delight to see this father and son enjoying the day together.
I departed for lower ground shortly there after and, as nearly as possible, headed directly back to town and my home in the parking lot. It only took about an hour or so to get down as I ended up with nearly 15 total miles for the day.
After a short rest I drove 20 miles to the Washoe Lake State Park where I enjoyed a great campfire and feasted on fire-roasted cheese dogs and chips. What a great way to celebrate Father’s Day and the first day of summer.
22/23 June - I enjoyed the peace and quiet so much last night that I decided to hang out here for another couple of days, and since my HOMIES are not meeting me in Bridgeport now anyway, I have no reason to hurry along. I also feel a little achy all over from yesterday’s big hike and I can use some extra relaxing time to rest my weary bones. I had planned to drive the Tioga Pass on my way home from Bridgeport/Twin Lakes but I’ll save that for another time and just come home via 50.
On Tuesday, I went for a 9 mile geohike and picked up 6 of 7 finds. The only one I couldn’t find was one that had not been found since November of last year, so I’m thinkin’ it’s been muggled. Anyhoo, I introduced another family (dad, mom, son, and 2 dogs), that I met while hiking today, to geocaching and they loved it. I’m just sitting here relaxing now, watching the sun go down over the lake. It really is so peaceful here. I am planning on having another campfire tonight if I don‘t pass out at this computer.
