We spent 5 days going up the Atlantic coast of Florida. The first 2 days were cool and very windy. We stayed at Juno Beach RV Resort and walked across the road to the beach. We tried to take a walk on the beach, but the wind was so strong it was hard to walk and kept getting sand in our eyes.
The weather was much nicer when we got to Ormond, just north of Daytona. We spent a day touring Daytona, mainly Daytona Speedway and the beach area. Daytona is one of the hot spots for bikers. Harley Davidson has many huge showrooms and service centers. We have seen many motor cycles on the roads throughout Florida.
We had heard so much about St Augustine, that we had to go see it. It was founded in 1565, which makes it 443 years old. We took a narrated sightseeing train to learn about our nation's oldest city, from the arrival of Ponce de Leon (thought he found his Fountain of Youth) to the present day. The train made stops at historical sites, major attractions, resturants, and shopping. We got off and on again, taking our time at several of the 21 stops, including the San Sebastian Winery.
We couldn't miss seeing the World Golf Hall of Fame at World Golf Village, a short drive from downtown St Augustine. It features artifacts, memorabilia, and exibits that tell about it's members and the history of golf.
Our last fill up of diesel in Florida cost $4.159 a gallon, however, we just filled up in Georgia and it was $4.079. We are averaging just over 8 mpg. I understand the gas prices are even higher in California. Afraid to think about what they will be by the time we get back!
