Oh yeah! Entrance to Morro Bay

We left Coho last night at 8:30 p.m. I am glad that the stretch from Pt. Conception to Pt. Arguello is behind us. It took about 6 hours to make 12 miles. That means that the wind from 20-30 kts. and 6 ft. confused seas (swells coming from more than one direction) were big enough to slow us to about 2kts. per hour rather than our usual 6-7 kts. Not fun! We were bundled up in our foulies (foul weather gear), wearing life jackets and clipped into the cockpit to ensure everyone on board stayed there. After rounding the points the coast heads eastward and the winds slowed to about 20 kts with 5 ft. seas which was a welcome relief.

We planned to stop at Avila beach also known as Pt.San Luis but found the weather to be deteriorating in a couple days and wanted to make more headway while the going was good. Wind and swells were quite pleasant this morning so we continued north to Morro Bay. After 13 hours we anchored and enjoyed lunch and a nap. Feels good to be sitting in a bay that is so close to home AND north of Pt. Conception. Tonight we will go out for dinner, and our friend Bruce from Ventura will be stopping by tomorrow to have lunch with us. After the weekend we will try to make way to San Francisco bay, God and weather willing!
