We've been home enjoying fine summer weather since May. Friends, family and neighbors hardy know what to make of our constant presence! Although the fall is also a great time to be home, it's an even better time to take repositioning cruises. When the seasons change, cruise companies move their ships from one market to another offering unusual itineraries at great prices. When we took cruises while we were still working, it was frustrating because we were so busy enjoying the ports of call, that we never had enough time to enjoy all that our ship had to offer and as for cruising in the fall - the school bell was always ringing.
Our upcoming trip on the Carnival Spirit should remedy this. After we board in Vancouver, we will have five delicious days at sea with time to sleep late, walk the deck, read a book, update this blog, and savor the gourmet food. Then the Spirit will visit a week's worth of ports-of-call in Hawaii. Even if we won't have time to do everything that sounds interesting in these ports, we will return to these islands in the weeks after the cruise and really get to know what Hawaii is all about.
We're looking forward to sharing this cruise with new friends we have met since moving to an active adult community. Half the joy of travel is in the preparation and it's been fun getting together with Mike & Sara, and Don & Lora and deciding which shore excursions to take and learning about Hawaiian culture. After we all get home we can get together, eat macadamia nuts, drink Kona coffee, reminisce and enjoy it all over again. It's great being a geezer!
