We left Wednesday morning to make the short trip to Englewood, KS to join the members of the Escapees Boondockers BOF for a Rendezvous. We made a short stop in Johnson City to visit Wes' mom who is in a care center there, then on to Ulysses for a short visit with his sister, Donna. Finally we got on the road for Englewood. It is just 50 miles south of Dodge City on highway 283. We were the 6th RV to arrive. This is our first Rendezvous although we have been "lurking" members for several years. We chose our "perfect spot", set everything up (including the satellite) and joined the 4 o'clock gathering. We were given the traditional SKP greeting and welcomed to the group. We certainly felt welcomed by everyone and soon had 10 new friends. Dinner followed and then the campfire for the evening. Most of the group had been together before and we found out this is a fairly new Rendezvous. This is only the second or third year to hold it here.
Englewood is a very small rural town with only 55 residents at the present time. Everyone in town welcomes us and we are included in all the community events. Everyone walks to the senior center for coffee every morning. We are parked in the city park where there are a few hookups, but most are boondocking. Another couple arrived on Thursday.
Of course, we volunteered to host a pancake breakfast. That was held Friday morning. Another couple arrived just as we were beginning to eat.
Our Friday 4'o'clock gathering was open to anyone in the community that wanted to come by and see and hear about RVing and boondocking. No one came out, so we had a little "show and tell" among the group. Some interesting ideas and equipment were presented.
Friday evening we drove to Gate, OK for a dinner out. Gate is a little town about 15 miles away with some interesting murals and the only restaurant in the area. Several in the group wanted to learn about geocaching, so after dinner, we located two in Gate. This could become a fun hobby.
Friday night was another campfire. Saturday morning we had homemade cinnamon rolls at the senior center. Saturday night is a community potluck and country music gathering. More to follow on that.
