Wanderings and Side Trips travel blog

We got a late start this morning. I had been so lax in keeping up our blog, I decided we could not leave until I was caught up. Can you imagine?! I've been so busy I haven't even had a chance to read the forum since we left home.

Finally we were on the road - about 10:30 whatever time. I can't seem to get that straight. At home in Kansas we are on Mountain Daylight Time. Here in AZ, it is Mountain Standard Time. Our daughter in McPherson, Kansas is now 2 hours ahead of us and our daughter in Aurora, CO is one hour ahead of us. Until Oct 29, when Mountain Daylight Time ends and then western Kansas, Colorado and AZ will all be on the same time and our McPherson, Kansas daughter will be only one hour ahead. This is too much to remember for someone who has a hard time knowing which day it is!!

We arrived in Camp Verde and found the Western Horizon RV park about 1:30pm. We checked in and got a great spot backed in right on the bank of the river. Of course we had all kinds of visitors. Everyone here is so friendly. We met an MOC member who knows Bill and Helen. Our neighbors are from NW Iowa. They had their laundry done before we were even set up! Another neighbor acrosss the road came by for a visit. We are learning a lot about trucks. All this info will be really helpful in choosing our new truck.

We have an appointment at 9am Tuesday to hear the WH presentation. We met our class of 05 members, Charlie and Paula, who are parked just down the road from us. After a short visit, they took us out to a really great pizza place, where we stuffed ourselves with anti-pasto and bread sticks. A short stop at the grocery store for ice cream which we served in our fifth wheel and we were all ready to call it a night. We had a great time and will get together again tomorrow afternoon.

We have been having some pretty cool days and cold nights so far. We have two down blankets on the bed and our electric mattress pad to keep us warm. We turn the furnace on for little while in the mornings to take the chill off. Well, it is almost too warm here. We will probably only need one blanket at night here.

Better hit the hay! Isn't this RV life great?!
