Today was really about trying to cover some kilometres to get us closer to Uluru. We managed this fairly well, reaching Stuart's Well Roadhouse, about 100 km south of Alice Springs. Alice itself presented as quite a nice place - a bit of a green oasis in the middle of lots of nothingness.
The roadhouse has a free campground which we had all to ourselves, though Sal spent $5 having herself a shower. I managed to out-do her, spending $6 having myself a beer! (No, nothing foreign - just a VB)
The kids enjoyed it here. They've been struggling a bit with the toilets at all our free and cheap campsites. Lots of them are drop toilets and plenty also not very clean. The toilets are the first thing that get checked (and rated) at every place we stop. We realised the extent of the anguish they'd been suffering when we got to Stuart's Well and Will emerged from the toilets stating euphorically (and earnestly) that the toilets had white seats and he thought they were probably cleaned at least every three days!
