South Africa Saturday, April 24, 2010

On Saturday after another operatic breakfast at Mario's, we drove to the town of George, which had a fascinating railroad and transport museum with real railroad steam engines and old vintage cars. There was an HO model layout by the Spoorwegvereniging Outeniqua Railway Society. The members were busy fixing a dead section of the track. Of course, Tom was in his glory!

The afternoon was spent first at Cango Wildlife Ranch (very Disney-esque and a bit like a zoo, as well as a bit tacky) and the the Cango Caves. Anne felt queasy as soon as she entered the cave and left before the tour started (shades of the caverns in Virginia where she was very embarrassingly sick deep in the cave), but Tom enjoyed it very much.

We had dinner at Paljas. Tom had ostrich that was tender and delicious, tasting just like beef.
