In Mazatlan we opted for a small hotel directly across from bus station for 200p (dbl).

The highway is very good, the buses very comfortable, watching more movies (dubbed in Spanish w/o subtitles) in days than I´ve watched in months. Mostly 4 laners, and progressively from semi-arid and flat to greener, agriculture (lots of corn as fields are filled with stacks and piles of dried cornstalks) and low mountains in the E. Travel on TAP line has been more comfortable than Elite. IN Mazatlan we opted for a small hotel just across from bus depot for 200p a dbl ($18 US). Chili rellenos not as good as in Alamos, really love the rice and beans above all else, ha.
