We slept in this morning and got a late start around 11 a.m. on another beautiful day. The visitor center was close to our campground, so we stopped and collected some literature. Stopped by the gift shop next door and picked up our free fudge. By the time we actually got on the road it was noon.
Our destination for today was Glennallen which is only about 150 miles from Tok. We had lunch at a rest area near the Tok River with beautiful views of Mount Sanford and Mount Drum in the Wrangell Mountains. Mount Sanford is one of Alaska's 10 highest peaks and is a dormant volcano that stands 16,237 feet high. Mount Drum stands to the right of Mount Sandford and is 12,010 feet high. We were lucky to see a moose along the Slana River.
The drive was otherwise uneventful. The road had a lot of bumps from frost heaves, but the vistas were fabulous all the way to Glennallen.
