We're taking a year off to travel! travel blog

When we were at Don’s reunion earlier in the month, we had made plans to visit a classmate’s new winery in Canon City. Today was the day, so we were up early for the drive to Canon City. First stop was a visit with Aunt Mary and Aunt Agnes. They were waiting for us with tea and fresh cantaloupe from their garden. It was very pleasant to sit out on the patio overlooking their wonderful garden and catch up on each other’s lives. After our snack, Mary walked me through the garden, picking a basket full of fresh produce for me to take home. I am sure I will thoroughly enjoy it!

Then it was on to the winery, the Legatum Cellars. There we met several of his classmates for wine tasting. Apparently they do this every Saturday, so had prepared 6 wines for us to taste, starting with a red. They also had a buffet luncheon set out. A good thing with the generous “tastes” we were served! Of the 6 wines, I liked the first one the best. Don liked one of the later wines the best. So of course we had to buy a few bottle to take home with us!

Also living in Canon City is our grandson, Lacie’s brother Tyler. We just found out that he had moved there when we went to Lacie’s engagement party earlier in the summer. Obviously we had to go visit him as well. He and his fiancé, Meaghan, have just bought a small house in town. The lot is large enough that she can have her chickens in the back yard. We didn’t stay long, just long enough for a short visit. Tyler promised to take us out to his marijuana farm the next time we come through and have a little more time to spare. We left with a dozen fresh eggs and promises to see them again soon.

It was our last night in Woodland Park, so Chris fixed steaks for us all for dinner.
