Road Trip to Grand Canyon
Nov 14, 2012
|Today was the beginning of another Road Trip Adventure for Bob & Janet as well as Marilyn & I.
The plan was to leave at 5:00 AM, have breakfast at Cracker Barrel in Flagstaff, then continue to the Grand Canyon.
We left right on time and we discovered during the conversation that none of us had slept very well the night before.
It took an hour to get through Phoenix and nearly two hours more to reach Flagstaff.
Our breakfast was fine and filled us completely.
We passed through the entrance gate at Grand Canyon National Park, using our “Golden Age Passport” for entry.
We have been so anxious for our friends to see the Grand Canyon!
Marilyn & I love it so much!
This was our 18th visit to the wondrous place. We backpacked the Canyon three times and have celebrated more than a few of our wedding anniversaries here.
Marilyn & I noticed that many changes have taken place since our last visit, including newly paved roads, trails, and parking areas, new signage, new shuttle busses, many building improvements, and an overall facelift.
One thing they do not have is a free internet service, although they do have that service for a fee. Internet minutes are sold in $5, $10, and $20 dollar increments.
We’ll be back at our own RV on Friday so I’ll simply write the journal entries each evening and post them when we return to Gold Canyon.
Today we hiked some of the West Rim Trail and rode the shuttle to Hermit’s Rest.
Let’s just say that many pictures were taken and we hope we didn’t bore our friends too much with stories of how it “used to be”.
We ate a late lunch at Bright Angel Lodge and I had my credit card returned with “No Charge” because Bob & Janet picked up the tab for our meal. Thank you dear friends!
We checked in at the Maswik Lodge, put the bags in our rooms, and then drove to the General Store to purchase a few items.
We drove through the campgrounds before returning to our rooms for the night.
We agreed to meet at 8:30 tomorrow morning, for breakfast and then another day of sightseeing.
Life is Good!
P.S. Pictures will follow when I get a chance to download them and get some posted.
