Wanderings and Side Trips travel blog

We left Tribune, KS Wednesday morning, only 2 days and 2 hours late. We stopped in Johnson City for a short visit with Wes' Mom who is in a care center there. In that hour after leaving home, we lost an hour because we changed to central time from mountain time. But at last we were on the road. We had planned to take our time and see some of the sights along this well traveled (by us) road, but we were so anxious to get to Aransas Pass that we just drove and drove. We were sleepy about 4pm, so we stopped in a truck stop for a nap. After that, Wes had so much energy, we drove until 9:30 pm. We spent a cold night in another truck stop (don't know where - they are all beginning to look alike). We had traveled 450 miles this first day - half way there. We also didn't stop to eat this first day - just snacked in the truck.

By Thursday morning we were hungry. We drove on to Kerrville, TX in the hill country and stopped at a Cracker Barrell. Wes had breakfast and I had dinner. Very good food. We ate every bite. We were so hungry. And then on south. We by passed San Antonio and picked up I-37 south of there and headed on our last leg of the trip. I called the Mobile Home Park to let them know we would be in after dark and they said come on in and take any empty spot and we could move if we wanted Friday morning. We arrived and backed in and hooked up the electricity and went to bed early. A total trip of 971 miles in two days. That's way beyond the hoped for 200 miles a day.

This morning we woke to COLD, cloudy, rainy weather. We decided we had chosen the best site in the dark, so we unhooked and set up. While Wes was hooking up and setting up the satellite, I cleaned the inside and put things away. Now we are "at home" here for a month. About noon, Glen and Diane (Rollin Hubbs) arrived. They got moved in and set up as well. After lunch and naps, we took a tour around town. Wes couldn't wait to check on the boats, so that is where we headed. The big boat looks good and the general opinion is that it should start up without too much work. The manager of the boat storage place had put a new lock on the other boat shed, so we couldn't get into see it, but it looked okay through the little crack in the door. Tomorrow morning we need to find the manager and get a key.

Tomorrow we will do some shopping for things we forgot and refill the propane. We have been using the heat a lot since we left home. The weather forcast looks good and better starting tomorrow. It should be back up in the high 60's and even 70 by the beginning of next week. YEAH!!

Check back often for photos and our adventures.
