Good Roads. High Fuel Price.
Oct 26, 2012
|We barely took time for our coffee before we began our “Pre-Departure” checklist this morning.
Dawn was just peeking out when we pulled out of the RV Park, in the early morning darkness.
An hour later we crossed the State Line into New Mexico, heading west on I-40.
At the town of Santa Rosa, we turned south on Hwy 54, and began looking for a filling station to fuel up the trucks. We drove a long ways and finally came to a very small town called Vaughn, NM.
They had one place to fuel up and they knew they were the only place for many miles.
The cost per gallon was $4.499. Gulp!!
Outside of that little financial surprise, we did well. The drive was easy on mostly good roads and we arrived at Boot Hill RV Resort at 1:15 in the afternoon. Of course we had gained one hour when we crossed into the Mountain Time Zone.
We are all set up and looking forward to a day when we can sleep in, as we are in no rush to get on with our visit to “White Sands” tomorrow.
Marilyn, my trusty photographer, has been busy and we might be able to get some pictures posted for you tonight.
I need to go back and post a few pictures for each day since leaving Hannibal last Monday.
If you wish, you may return to those entries and check out the pictures. The ones taken in Palo Duro Canyon are quite nice for sure.
Also I will take a moment to let you know what a fine experience we had at “Rolling Retreats” RV Sales in Elk City.
Slade & Alicia who own this business, are a wonderful Christian couple, dedicated to helping RV’ers.
They worked us in to a busy schedule, did a fine job, and treated us like family.
I would return to these fine folks for work on the RV or to purchase a new RV, any time! Keep them in mind any time you need repairs or if you are looking for a new RV.
Now I need to get those photos downloaded and posted if I can.
Life is Good!
