Ed & Marilyn 'The Happy Wanderers' travel blog

Wind and More Wind!

That was the order of the day today.

Not only did the wind blow all day at 30 to 40 mph, but it was mainly from the south, southwest.

Guess what! Our direction of travel was south, then west, then south and then west, to finally arrive at Elk City, Oklahoma.

We drove a bit over 400 miles today in that horrendous wind.

My fuel mileage, which had been at 11.0 mpg yesterday, dropped all day, to 10.0 mpg, then steadily declined until finally we arrived showing an overall mpg of 8.6.

We fueled twice along the way and the tank showed only ¼ full as we arrived. Fuel has cost us over $4.00 per gallon, too!

We fought the wind all day. The crosswind was the worst part and my arms, neck and shoulders ache a bit from keeping the Rig in the proper lane.

In any case, we are settled in at Rolling Retreats RV Sales. Slade, the owner, has us on a nice level concrete pad with water and electric.

We found a BBQ place to have dinner and another place called “Simon’s Catch” where you can get all the catfish you can eat.

Guess what! My reputation remains intact as I drove Marilyn, Bob & Janet, to Simon’s Catch, only to discover that they were closed today. Grrrrrr………..

Slade wants to begin work on our fridge at 8:00 tomorrow morning so we’ll be up and about, maybe sipping our coffee outdoors, early in the morning.

I have a plan to take our friends to visit the Black Kettle Museum and visit the Site where Lt Col George Custer and the Seventh Cavalry fought a village of mostly peaceful Cheyenne, killing Chief Black Kettle and his wife.

I’ll tell you more about it tomorrow.

For now I’ll just say that we are dead tired and want to go to bed early, so I’ll wrap this up and get it posted.
