|Thursday, 05 July: Northward bound...
With sadness we departed our nest for the rigors of the open road. We'd gotten so content at the Davilas that it was difficult to leave. But, as with all good things, we had places to go.
We got things ready and Bob backed the coach out of her site and onto the street where we connected the car and completed our checks. Last hugs with Carmen and Domingo and a few minutes before nine off we went. Our route took us thru Saginaw on M 13 and onto I 675 to connect with I 75 north. We found the road almost deserted till we got pretty far north, and even then there was no traffic or delays.
Lunch at a rest stop near Gaylord and Sandi took the helm for the rest of the trip. Up and over the Straits of Mackinac on the Mackinac Bridge (the "Big Mac"). We like crossing this bridge and the toll for this magnificent structure was less than the Delaware Water Gap (a puny bridge by comparison!
Once in the Upper Peninsula ("Da Yuppa" as the locals call it) we headed west in U.S. 2. With the exception of a detour the drive was uneventful. We arrived at the Kewadin Casino in Manistique at 1520 and found a 30 amp site. As in the past, parking is complementary.
Problems... Our refrigerator quit! It was dead could be with no 12 volt power to the "brain". We checked all we could and didn't see anything obvious. So, off to the local grocery to buy ice.
Today's drive was 282 miles with an overall fuel economy of 8⅓ mpg.
