Today Dianne, Inge, Ginger, Vera, Virginia and I attended the Bach cantata, “Mit Fried und Freud Ich Fahr Dahin” (With Peace and Joy I Depart) at the Blanton Museum of Art. This chorale was very popular in Bach’s day and has always been associated with Simeon, the old man in the temple who recognized the divinity of the baby Jesus at Mary’s purification rites.
The featured artwork was “The Holy Family with the Young Saint John the Baptist”, oil on canvas, c. 1685 by Bartolomeo Guidobono. Our docent today was a new one. She seemed to be nervous, which is understandable.
