Hangin' Around Reno
11 June - Things went pretty well at Boomtown last night. I went for a walk this morning around the casino, played a little slots, and then walked next door to Cabela’s. According to my sources, this place is also RV friendly but I‘ve never stayed at one, yet. I’ve seen them scattered around the country but never went inside one until today. What a neat place. It’s a sportsmen’s outfitting store, kind-of a super REI per se, but offers a whole lot more than just gear. There’s an aquarium stocked with huge fish, a couple of outstanding wildlife exhibitions, a gun library, a general store and a snack bar with excellent sandwiches, salads, and coffee. After dropping 20 bucks in the casino next door, looking around in here for free was a real treat and the place was buzzing. I was impressed with all the folk in here, especially with it being out in the boonies and all (Boontown, get it?), pun intended.

I headed for Costco in Reno next to fill up my almost empty gas tank at 2.46 a gallon and a whopping total of $114.65. At least it’s cheaper than California and I still had enough cash left over for my 1,000,000 calorie super-duper Costco dog and churro meal.

There is no free overnight parking spots in Reno (city ordinance) so I decided to check out John Ascuaga's Nugget Resort and Casino in Sparks, just a few miles east of Reno. I liked it, so I stayed.
