Today we continued on westward and stopped in at Judge Roy Beans Museum and visitor center in Landry. Very interesting and a very nice visitor center. Some interesting displays and the buildings are well preserved, but very little in the way of furniture etc. Maybe that's all they had in those days or maybe this museum is still a work in progress. At any rate, it was a nice stop in an otherwise long, flat day. Anyone who complains about driving across Kansas has never driven across west Texas.

We found the Saddleback Mountain RV park in our Passport America directory, so decided that would be a good stopping place for the night. This is a good example of the inflated descriptions of some of the RV parks we have encountered. The directory said it was a pleasant park with laundry, showers, gas station, grocery store, restaurant, and full hookups - all for only $10.00. Well, we almost missed it. When we pulled off the highway, all that was there was a run down Fina station. After looking around a little, we discovered a sign that said "RV park office". It was where you went into pay for your gas. The restaurant was a little corner of the gas station, as was the grocery store. If you wanted to restock on pop and candy bars and chips, it would be a good place to shop. I never did find a laundry or showers, but I am sure we would not have used them anyway from the looks of the rest of the facilities. The RV spaces were nice and the hookups were adequate. We did not hook up to the water because the connections were under very dirty looking water, but the sewer and electric were fine.

I am learning that RV park/resort in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona means a gravel parking lot with rocks etc and maybe a little tree. No lush green grass or large shade trees like southern Texas and even Kansas. However, again, the price is right and all we really need is a level place to park with hookups. We are not staying any longer than overnight.

The one outstanding event was the little flock of Quail that ran across the road as we arrived. Once we were settled, they returned and we got in a good hour of "Quail watching". I love those little birds. They are so comical and interesting to watch.

Tomorrow maybe we will get out of Texas.
