On the Road to Topeka
Sep 5, 2012
|Mike & Marian had a long drive today which dictated an early breakfast together.
The restaurant next door opened at 6:00 and we were there right after the doors were opened.
We shared a fine breakfast, conversation and lots of laughter before sharing hugs and heading in separate directions.
We look forward to seeing these wonderful people again.
Marilyn & I pulled out of the Campground at 7:16 AM and arrived at Deer Creek Valley RV Park at 12:14, giving us a nice steady drive of five hours. Once again, a slight tailwind helped us out and we averaged 12.1 mpg for the trip.
The road we would normally take into the RV Park is under construction, forcing us to go around and come down a hill with an 18% grade.
We can hardly wait to climb that hill on the way out. LOL
The office here was closed when we arrived so I made a quick phone call and got the OK to park in our assigned site and get set up.
By 1:00, we were inside with the A/C running, cold drink in hand, and relaxing with a snack.
We have spoken to our daughter several times today and sure look forward to hugging those grandkids again.
After that bite of lunch we checked e-mails and messages, then I walked to the office to pay for one night. The forecast is telling us that we may expect rain and thunderstorms on Friday so we might just go on to Hannibal tomorrow and be there when the rain hits that area.
I have set up in the rain before and would prefer not to do that.
We’ll see how it goes and let you in on our decision.
John & Lori sent a note to let us know they would come by to pick us up at 5:30. We will all go to dinner at a place they know about and then a custard shop for dessert.
Oh yeah! Life is Good!
