After church today I stopped at the nearby Walmart Pharmacy to pick up my prescription and I had an unpleasant surprise. With my new Humana-Walmart drug insurance plan, the prescription would cost me $25.37 as opposed to the $6.00 I had been used to paying with my old insurance. I was expecting to pay only $4.00. Of course, the Walmart insurance premium is a lot cheaper, so I guess I shouldn't have been so shocked.
I learned that the $4.00 co-pay applied only to the 200 mg strength Acyclovir and only for 30 caplets. I need the 400 mg strength for 60 caplets per month, i.e., four times the amount. I sent a message to my ophthalmologist requesting that he send the pharmacy a revised prescription. This would cost me $16 for a 30-day supply or $40 for a 90-day supply.
Ach!! Always something!
