Chilkoot Lake Alaska

Hwy to Million $ Falls

Only us and the mountains

Summit on Haines Hwy

Sky mountains and open road

July 13th

Officially on the road for one whole month as of today! We head north from Haines to Haines Junction. This is by far the most impressive stretch of road we have driven. It is one stunning mountain view after another. We saw four groups of nesting swans in various small lakes just off the road but nothing close enough to photograph which is a shame. It took us 3 hours to drive 150 kms from Haines to our stop at the Million Dollar Falls Camp Ground in the Yukon. This hwy follows the Chillkat Trail over the mountain into Kluane National Park. We stopped at the summit to take pictures and just listen to the silence. We are still surprised at how few people are on this stretch of hwy. We are virtually the only ones going north it seems. Once at our camp site we have to take shelter from rain but not before we get to see the falls that the site is named for. Next morning we don’t wake up until 9:30 which is a first for us this trip.
