|The weather finally broke enough for us to travel back west on Hwy 59 to Hwy 182 to Hwy 37 to Hwy 281 then to State Loop 1604 through San Antonio, then I-10 to Hwy 87 in Fredericksburg. We found a new RV Park called Quiet Creek about 1 1/2 miles out of Fredericksburg. Large new park with great owners. They are just getting landscaping, picnic tables, etc. completed for the park. Excellent new laundry room.
With so much rain, then warm weather, the wildflowers of Texas were in full bloom. One day we took a drive to Johnson City then up to Burnett to Llano and back to Fredericksburg. The wildflowers were spectacular. The only unfortunate part is that they are along the highway and there was no place to pull off for pictures. We had made this trip several years ago and were very unimpressed with the roadsides. Not so this year! Just beautiful.
We hit Fredericksburg at Spring Break time so the town itself was packed with people and our favorite Brew Pub was too crowded to enjoy another meal. However, we did try another restaurant we had been wanting to try, Buffalo Nickel Bar & Grill. Very good food and nice to know there is another place in Fredericksburg to eat. We decided to take drives out and around instead of staying the city. We headed out to the Wildseed Farm where we were disappointed because their fields of flowers were just beginning to bloom and nothing like we saw along the roadsides. Still a great place to visit. They had a new winery tasting room, Wedding Hill. Not too bad! On our drive to Johnson City, we noticed all the new wineries that have opened along Hwy 290. One particularly caught our attention, Grape Creek Winery. This wineries here all charge for tasting, but we both decided to taste and so glad we did. We really enjoyed these wines especially their red ones. The Texas wines have definitely come a long way since we first started coming to Texas. This winery had a restaurant on site so we enjoyed a wonderful lunch in the sunshine listening to a guitar player. A very fun day!
The weather while we were here was excellent and allowed us to sit out in the morning for coffee and breakfast. Great stay in the beautiful Hill Country of Texas!
