Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore Summer 2010 travel blog

Hi all,

Friday,

We headed north to the Battle of Little Big Horn. Yes that June day in 1876 General George Custer met his end. It was very interesting to hear about the events that transpired upto and including the battle of Custer, Reno, and Benteen. The self guided tour started at the visitor center with lost of displays and lectures over looking last stand hill. Then we walked up to last stand hill and looked at the markers where fallen solders lay. There is a memorial near the hill were over 200 solders are still today. The families of the fallen solders were ask if they wanted to return the bodies but most remained here. Gen Custer was returned to West Point. We then drove about 4 1/2 miles to the Reno-Benteen battlefield. Along the way we stopped at a number of view points of interest. The markers scattered over the hills. US Solders are in white stones and the Indian markers in red. We know that over 200 solders lost their life that day but the actual Indian count is unsure as they carried their dead away from the area. What a day.

Saturday,

Today is laundry, a little shopping, and local museums to see this morning. This evening we will go out to a local steak and chop house for dinner. In the morning we will pack up and head to Hill City SD.

I have posted more pictures on the web.
