2008 Fall Colors travel blog

We had a nice drive thru downtown Houston on Saturday morning around 8:30AM--6 lanes of traffic with very few trucks or cars! That is the time to drive thru downtown Houston with a 37 foot RV! The only interesting part of the trip down I-10 was around Seguin where there was a traffic accident and an estimated 200 motorcycle riders had just pulled into a road side park. The accident was at the exit to the park and the Highway Patrol had a helicopter sitting in the middle of the road stopping traffic. After a short time, the helicopter took off and we were ready to go.

Some of the roadside parks had changed since we last did the Houston to San Antonio run about 3 years ago.

So after 4377 miles we completed our 2008 Fall Colors tour of about 7 states and had alot of fun seeing the sights, listening to good music, and eating some good seafood. Our best stop was in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park and then a week in Charleston, South Carolina. The weather was cooler than the average and made everyday a real pleasure. The white Florida beaches were a neat treat at the end of the trip.

We did not see as many RV's on the road as in the past but the ecomony sure had an impact even though diesel prices dropped about $1.00 per gallon from $3.85 to $2.88/gallon. That was nice!
