Ron's boat

Marilyn and I left Springfield at 8:00 in the morning. We drove past Joplin, MO and enjoyed the Oklahoma turnpike for awhile. One of the neat things is the worlds largest McDonalds built across the Interstate highway in Oklahoma. We didn't stop. :)

At a place called Big Cabin we left the smooth interstate and started south on a washboard road called route 69. We stayed on that all day and it didn't get much better as the ride shook us, the truck and the rv, like one of those cartoon weight reduction machines with a vibrating belt. We were worn out by 2:30 PM and stopped for the night at the Colbert, OK KOA. That is a very nice RV park. So nice in fact that we decided to stay an extra night. We were in bed early that first night and slept really good. The next day, we met some of the other people passing through. We also drove out to Lake Texhoma where a good friend, Ron Alderman, has his boat. We were standing on the dock admiring Ron's boat and I couldn't resist the temptation so I called him on the phone to let him know we were there. Ron was delighted and asked us to do him a favor which we were happy to do because it involved boarding his boat and we got to look inside.

Later that evening we went out to eat catfish with another couple we had met earlier. Bob and Linda were also headed to the Rio Grande Valley for the winter.

It was funny stopping in Colbert because I had told Marilyn after leaving the ice and snow, that we were going to drive south until the thermometer in the truck said 70 degrees F. About 10 miles north of Cobert it did indeed hit 70 F. Still, we are looking for warmer weather so tomorrow we'll see what's around the bend....
