Today Inge Rider, Dianne Bennett, Virginia Staats and I attended the first Bach cantata of 2013 at the Blanton Museum of Art. Their performance of “Ach Gott, wie manches Herzeleid BWV 3” (Ah, God, how much heartbreak). The featured work of art today was “The Holy Family with the Young Saint John the Baptist” by Bartolomeo Guidobono, 1680-85. It is part of the Suida-Manning Collection.
As we were leaving the parking garage, we met a woman from Dallas, Claudia Owen. She is a recently-retired art teacher. She was exploring while her husband was in a business convention of ERCOT. We invited her to go with us to the cantata and the docent-led discussion of the featured painting and other similar paintings. Afterwards, she had lunch with us at the Blanton Café. We enjoyed having her.
