Our trip from Norman, OK to Amarillo, TX covered 297 miles which should have been 285 except for a 12 mile detour off I-40 through El Reno, OK and back to I-40 a few exits down. We don't know why but figure there must have been an accident or something that closed I-40. We did give the Mothership an 82 gallon drink just as we came into Amarillo.
We are staying at the Oasis RV Resort
on the west side of Amarillo. We always try to pick a park that is after going through a large town or city so we don't have to contend with work traffic when we leave. It is a very nice park where we have a long, 50 amp, full hookup, concrete pull-through with good Verizon and a no trees of any size. Of course we are out in the plains so the winds went from breezy to gale force in the hour we spent going to Logan's Roadhouse after getting set up.
Last night (24th) the winds were so high we had to bring the large LR and Kitchen slides in to reduce the noise from their awnings. We thought the back small slides would be OK if we turned on the A/C fan and Doris' filter to high to drown out the racket. We woke up again about midnight and got the ear plugs out! That allowed us to sleep in until after 8:00! We just relaxed today and took care of a few things around the Mothership to get her ready for the rest of the trip to Chino Valley.
Tomorrow, we head to Albuquerque for a two-night stay. That will slightly change our itinerary as we will stay in Albuquerque for two nights, reducing our Holbrook stay to one night and added Williams, AZ for two nights. We still get to Chino Valley on May 1.
