Wed, 25 Apr: Well, our travel decision was made for us by some not-too-pretty weather forecasts for Bryce Canyon National Park. The spring storm blowing in from California was predicted to dump from 4" to 8" of snow in the Bryce Canyon area. The rangers said it was "no big deal", but we're pretty conservative and would prefer not to drive our coach up and down those mountain passes on wet roads.

So, we decided to head "down the hill" somewhat and find a place where the forecast was for rain without the snow component. We could have driven nonstop from Bryce Canyon to Ogden, but elected to take it easy and find a midpoint. After some research we found a designated truck/RV parking area in Nephi, UT, just south of the Salt Lake Metro (about 20 miles south of Provo).

We also elected to take the scenic route which entailed backtracking along UT 63 to UT 12 to US 89. We took US 89 all the way to I 70, and then continued east until it split from the Interstate and continued north to UT 28 which we took to Nephi. Our Interstate component of today's 180 miles was about 30 miles. US 89 is very scenic and we really enjoyed the relaxing drive.

We departed the North Campground at 1030 and arrived at our parking area at 1430. This included a stop for lunch in Sevier, UT (just south of I 70). Carpe ran beautifully and consumed 17.3 gallons of diesel for 10.3 mpg (going downhill helps). We are now at a "mere" 5,150' altitude.

Our plans are uncertain at this point. The forecasts still call for rain and possible thunderstorms this evening and continuing into tomorrow. Depending on their severity we may stay here until Friday rather than drive through the Salt Lake City I 15 corridor in the rain. But then again, if it looks promising we'll head out tomorrow. Choices are the very best part of retirement...

We expect to spend the weekend in the Ogden area. Bob's niece Stacy and her two kiddies live there and we always enjoy visiting with them. We'll also have our mail shipped to us in care of the RV park so we may have to stay thru Monday to pick that up.

After that????? Stay tuned.
