We made the long drive back to Volcano national park again. Once we got to the park, we drove a road down from the visitor center to edge of the sea to where a 2003 lava cut across the road on it‘s way to the ocean. Unfortunately lava pressure has dropped so there's no more lava flow to the sea. And since the drop of pressure blocked off the tube, when it starts up again, a new lava tube will be created out to the sea.
We also had time to hike a 'desolation trail' where an eruption wiped out a rain forest.
