Today we left San Ignacio and drove to Belize City. Here we got off where the boats leave for some of the islands. We had a little while to wait for our boat but were told not to wander off as our guide said Belize City is very dangerous with high crime rates in daylight and for her to say this we knew it must be pretty bad! So we went to the supermarket to buy a few essential supplies, as, for example, we discovered they had Cadburys Dairy Milk in this particular supermarket! We then got on a speed boat water taxi and headed off to the island of Caye Caulker which took about an hour. The island itself is very small, about 1.5 miles long and there are no roadsor cars! Just sandy tracks and walkways so everybody drives golf buggies instead or rides bicycles. Life on the island is extremely laid back and nobody rushes for anything. We spent the afternoon exploring and went for a swim off the jetty as there are no real beaches here and most of the island has a sea grass which isnt a good idea to stand on as it can irritate the skin and contains lots of sea life!

In the evening we had a barbeque on the beach and had some very fresh local fish which was absolutely delicious, like grilled barracuda and red snapper fillets.
