Sheila & Terry's New Zealand special holiday travel blog

Another lovely morning for travelling. The road from Wanganui south was much straighter and easier for Terry...but not so interesting! The countryside was pastural with lots of sheep at last. We were wondering where they all were as there was mostly cattle in Northland. We joined the SH1 again and reached Wellington just after lunch and went straight to the ferry quayside.

Although it was 2pm they allowed us to park the van and cycle into the city which was lovely round the quay past the marina in the sunshine. Wellington (the capital)is all built on hills so apart from the roads immediately round the bays it is UP and UP..but you got great views from the top.

We then visited the Te Papa national museum for a couple of hours which was very informative about the earthplate movements that are causing all the geothermal activity in NZ as well as interactive exhibits involving experiencing an earthquake and lots on the flora and fauna we had seen on our travels.

It was then back to the van for an a night on the quayside which is another tale.
