Christmas tree at end of Queen Street Mall

Christmas tree at night

Lizard in Botanical Gardens

Well, I have now finished working as an au pair as Wendy is fully recovered from pneumonia now so I wasn't needed. The Mayne's drove to Brisbane on Saturday (2nd) as they were invited to a birthday meal Saturday night and had to go to a christening on Sunday and since they needed someone to look after the children on Saturday night they asked me to come along. And since I was no longer needed, I've stayed on in Brisbane for a few days. I'm planning to head back to Sydney on Thursday and do a dive course next week for my birthday!

Anyway, after the christening yesterday (there were 6 children being christened!) I was dropped off down Upper Roma Street, where there are several backpacker hostels. Luckily the first one I tried had 1 bed left, which I got. The hostel has a pool, free internet, a bar with nightly entertainment and a barbeque! So pretty good! I had a little wander around the city last night, but got caught in a thunderstorm so hurried back, but I got very wet!

Today I was supposed to go swimming in the morning, but I was feeling very lazy so didn't. Instead I had another walk through the city and went to the Botanic Gardens, which were very nice and relaxing, I bought a book before I got there so read that under a bunyan fig tree. A bunyan fig tree grows really big and drops branches down to the ground to form roots and give extra support. I took a photo, so when it's developed and I've forgotton what it's called I can look on here! There was also a mangrove boardwalk with a view of the Kangaroo point cliffs. By the lilypond I saw 3 lizards, I'm not sure what type exactly, except they weren't frillnecks.
