Today we drove back to Montpelier, Idaho for another lunch at the Artic Burger. This is the first time we have seen this burger place, they have delicious food, we hope it’s not the last time. :-) We also did a bit of geocaching while in town.
Montpelier is a city located in Bear Lake County, Idaho. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 2,785. The city is largest community in the Bear Lake Valley, a farming region north of Bear Lake in southeastern Idaho along the Utah border. It was settled in 1863 by Mormon pioneers on the route of the Oregon Trail. In 1892 the railroad was extended to Montpelier, with a terminal being located here until 1972.
This town was also made famous by Butch Cassidy. Butch Cassidy and his gang robbed the Bank of Montpelier at 3:13 pm on August 13, 1896 after the 13th deposit in the amount of $13.00, then raced out of town. I bet he was really disappointed when he only got $13.00. :-)
