A short (6 hour) and pleasant train ride took us to Bundi, a small town (88,000). We arrived late at night to this narrow-laned town. When we woke in the morning it was foggy, but the sky was covered in thousands of kites. Apparently, we had lucked out by being here for the annual kite festival. There were many colorful, crumbling homes, and all of them - it seemed - had a rooftop deck where kids and adults were enthusiastically flying kites. Quite a sight!

Other than the kite festival, we visited the Bundi Palace (from the early 15th century with major upgrades in 1607), which had fantastic mosaics and paintings. We also wandered through the quaint lanes of this hillside village. Not nearly as touristy as most of the other towns we've visited, this was an incredibly pleasant place to spend a few days.
