At my Brother's Gravesite

After a long and arduous flight, lasting nearly 19 hours, we arrived in Washington, DC.

We called Jennifer to let her know that we were back in the USA. It will sure be good to see her, Steve, and those grandkids again.

The customs procedures and passport control were no issue and we were soon claiming our bags and walking out into the open lobby area where we immediately spied my sister, Pat and brother-in-law, Steve, waiting for us with big smiles on their faces.

What a pleasure to exchange big hugs, a few kisses and greetings with these two wonderful people.

Steve had things under control and within a few minutes we were loading the luggage into his car and then headed toward DC, and the home of my sister-in-law, Judy.

At Judy’s home, after more hugs and kisses, we sat and visited as they wanted to hear all about our trip to Africa.

Soon, our nephew, Dan, arrived. What a fine, handsome young man he is! We are so proud of him, as we are of his brother, John, who is now in Afghanistan. More hugs!

A bit later, Dan’s girlfriend, Cecelia, called Cici, arrived and it was a joy to meet her. She seems to fit right in to the family and it was easy to spend time with her.

Judy had prepared a very nice meal with a chicken stew, mashed potatoes, gravy, carrots, greens, and all sorts of desserts, including lemon pie, which is my favorite.

My niece, Sherry and her daughter, Megan, joined us. It was hard to believe how much Megan has grown since we saw her last. She is now in the seventh grade and a sweet young lady. More hugs!

The conversation and laughter flowed easily and the comfortable, relaxed company made everything a real treat.

After the delicious meal, however, I began to fade fast. We had been awake for about 48 hours and I struggled to keep my eyes open.

I think it was about 9:00 when we went off to bed, looking forward to some rest and beginning the process of adjusting our circadian rhythm to the new time zones.

Jennifer called several times before we went off to bed. We spoke to her and to Colby. Can Hardly wait to see them when we get back home.

Life is Good!
